Who helped you cope with relocations and/or deployments?

Family…just calling home to see how everything is going. There are sixteen of us brothers and sisters total, so that’s a very big support system.

The USO was a great help in relocating my family when I was sent to Great Britain. They helped find housing, maps and advice about living in a foreign country.

What did you learn about yourself through your military experience?

I learned about discipline, hard work, patience, caring and being humble…and I use this experience at Food 4 Less.

We often hear after friends and family, a taste of home is what our servicemembers miss the most. What home-cooked meal did you crave when you were away?

I missed our big Sunday dinner with family, which was usually rice and beans, chicken stew and potato salad. It was dancing, eating…just spending time with family, giving us a greater bond. My wife who was with me overseas actually called my mom back home for the recipe, and over time she learned to make it. My mom keeps all the recipes in her head!
