Who helped you cope with relocations and/or deployments?

I handled all of my relocations.

What did you learn about yourself through your military experience?

It taught me how to be independent and take care of myself, but also take care of others.

What did you miss most from home?

I have five brothers and one sister. I missed being with them and my mother. My brothers would tell me about how they went fishing…about how many they caught and how big they were. And the basketball and baseball games we were always playing…I missed that the most. Once I got to gathering with the other soldiers and doing soldier duties, it became easier.

We often hear after friends and family, a taste of home is what our servicemembers miss the most. What home-cooked meal did you crave when you were away?

My mother’s country black-eyed peas, cornbread, greens, and sweet potato and pecan pies. She just had that special touch a mother has.
